A couple weeks ago, our blog post featured Anne H Styles and her website photoshoot when she was just starting her business last year. I thought it was so cool that she knew so much about clothes because honestly, I have never been one of those people who knew what to wear.

I’ve had my children put together outfits for me, I call my BFF in crisis when I have to go somewhere important, and I despised the idea of trying to put an outfit together. A year ago, I pretty much wore jeans with whatever free t shirt was on top in my drawer, mostly from NephCure Walks and coaching soccer and cheerleading.

Go ahead, you can have a laugh. It’s funny…  These are the BEST of the worst outfits I wore before my makeover.

Yes, that is a leopard print cowboy hat with an orange Dragonball Z shirt and blue sweatpants… I repeatedly bought the same shirt in different colors and wore Etnies and DCs with everything.

Having accepted that I was not a fashionable person, I never thought about working with a personal stylist. I had been told I was beyond help.

Working with Anne was amazing because she made me realize that wearing t shirts, jeans and flip flops all summer was not the way I wanted to represent my personal brand.  This was right when we were rebranding from Erika Hatfield Photography to Hatfield Photography. We figured out what style of clothing I liked and what the best colors and fits were best for me!

Now, I have an app on my phone with all my best colors, that we can check when we are shopping. It is amazing!

“The reality is, most people wear 20% of their closets 80% of the time. My goal for you is to create a wardrobe where you enjoy wearing 100% of it.” – Anne

I used to throw everything I own on the bed and floor every time we tried to go on date night and I cancelled on Jake more than once when I couldn’t find anything to wear. Since I worked with Anne, I donated over half of the clothes in my closet. They looked like somebody’s else’s clothes or a collection of items that looked like they belonged to whoever I went shopping with that day.

We went shopping together and I got a whole new wardrobe of things that actually fit me and that I love.

If you’ve watched Marie Kondo’s Konmari method on Netflix, I’ll say everything in my closet now sparks joy. I know what things I can wear together and I know what I want when I go shopping. If someone had told me I would work with a personal stylist and end up enjoying shopping for clothes, I would have declared shenanigans but it’s incredible what knowing what to wear can do for your confidence.
